№ 335: Intelligence (Again)

Intelligence.
Blessing or curse?
As we get “smarter”
do we get worse?
We create problems.
Then we do “fixes”,
striving to find what
the optimal mix is.
Today's advance
is tomorrow's reverse.
The idea of “progress”
is often perverse.
We push boundaries,
introduce breakthroughs.
Many of which
are very bad news.

It's in our genes,
this peculiar resolve:
problems we make
we also can solve.
This unhappy instinct
our sole distinction —
leads us to the brink
of our extinction.
We muddle through,
though torn and tattered,
and some sometimes wonder
does it all matter?

Life is lumpy
and very unsteady
when you follow the credo
“Fire, aim, ready.”
