EVERYWHERE (August 7)
Adolf, they say, was the sweetest of babies.
As, they say, was Mao Zedong.
Initial impressions give scant indication
of what in our time we become.
Caligula, as his dad's legion's mascot,
was a totally lovable tyke.
It was not until later Romans discovered
what he was actually like.
In infancy, Idi always seemed sunny.
Attila the Baby was a real honey.
Babies, as babies, are sweet and adorable.
Some become adults, at best, deplorable.
There is a vaccine that can prevent rabies.
Perhaps it is time we stop making babies?
