№ 504: Southern Exposure

I pity Southerners
who time and again
have been betrayed
by cliques of old men
who retain power
by switching labels,
pretending there's truth
in racial fables.

The party may change
but the program remains:
keep white and black
forever estranged;
make them compete
for a small bit of gruel;
insure the same folk
continue to rule.

I give you McConnell,
Graham and others
and wonder if they'd been
smothered by mothers
with foresight to see
what they'd turn out to be,
would they be missed?
Well. . .not by me.

№ 346.1: EXTRA! Southern Batpist Cross Too Bare

Everyone knows Jesus was Baptist
not some kinda Jew, much less a Cath'lic.
If'n y'all cud jes' add our Confederate flag,
put him up on horseback so he don't look like a fag. . .
That, jes' mebbe, would make it awright.
Leastways y'all got it right 'n made 'im all white.

No. CLXVI.i: EXTRA! You Con, Icon

When they say:
Celebrating our heritage is not about hate.
It's respecting heros and history of our Southern states.

Reply:
If you insist on statutory “religion”,
jim dandy, we'll send you all of our pigeons.

No. CXXXIII.i: EXTRA! Nonsense On Pedestals

To "celebrate history" it would be absurd
to put up a statue of King George the Third.
One simple fact, there is no debate here:
Confederate statues celebrate traitors.
Yes, it's our history, but come on now, Donald.
Do you see statues of Benedict Arnold?
(Never examined in these discourses:
why Southerners worship dead losers on horses.)
And, however hard you may sleuth,
even Dixie lacks statues of John Wilkes Booth.
